Ancient ruins and ancient people. The temples scattered throughout Italy have such a rich history. I got to peek into the religion of those before me. The city of Selinunte offered me that peek. Selinunte is a small Sicilian beach town but during the ancient Roman Empire, it was a thriving city that had erected a multitude of temples to Roman gods. They were fantastic. It blew my mind to think I was standing in the same place where people from 1000s of years of ago had been. I learned how closely connected ancient religions had to modern religions and it help me form a new kind of appreciation.
